The ECB National Academy won the one-day series against their Sri Lankan counterparts in Colombo by a two-one margin thanks to the contributions of Warwickshire batsman James Troughton and Northamptonshire left-arm spinner Monty Panesar. The Academy won the final match by 141 runs.
Troughton's hundred came from 110 balls as he engineered a recovery from 58 for three to an imposing 271 for seven off 50 overs. There was valuable support from Gordon Muchall of Durham who scored 62 as the pair put on 168 for the fourth wicket at a very healthy rate.
Hampshire pace bowler Chris Tremlett then took a wicket with the fourth ball of the home side's reply, Darren Stevens of Leicestershire picked up two more as did Richard Dawson of Yorkshire.
However, it was Panesar who did most of the damage and sealed the comprehensive victory. He dismissed top scorer Ian Daniel, stumped by Chris Read for 60, and then ran through the lower order to finish with five for 20 in eight overs as Sri Lanka A were bowled out for 130.
