The Bangladeshis have finally got off the mark in their World Cup campaign. Having lost the first of their warm-up matches, their batsmen came good in a day/night match under the Durban floodlights as they beat KwaZulu-Natal by five wickets.
Ehsanul Haque, a 23 year-old who has played only two one-day internationals, led the way with an innings of 92. He steered Bangladesh to within two runs of victory before he was out, having received valuable support from Al Sahariar who got the innings off to a sound start with 68.
This was after the home side had reached 251 for six in their 50 overs, with 76 from Hashim Amla and 64 from Mark Sanders. Both fell to leg-spinner Alok Kapali, as did Dale Benkenstein. Bangladesh got home with nearly four overs to spare.
The Namibians continue to impress. They beat Northerns by eight runs in Pretoria to record their second win in as many matches. They could only manage 190 for nine from their 50 overs, with the top-scorer being JB Burger with an undefeated 48.
However, Northerns then made a pretty ham-fisted attempt at scoring the runs by being bowled out for 182 in the 49th over. Bjorn Kotze finished with four for 32, while Louis Burger took three wickets to complete a good day for the Burger boys.
The West Indians had a convincing victory over Griqualand West by 142 runs at Kimberley. Carl Hooper was exactly 100 not out as his side reached 360 for four when their innings closed. Hooper's runs came off only 69 balls, while Wavell Hinds hit 96 from 83 at the top of the order and Ramnaresh Sarwan contributed a more sedate 80.
Adrian McLaren did make 55 for the Griquas, but it took him some time to do so and the home side had no answer to the West Indian attack, only making 218 for six in their 50 overs.
